Donate to Culpepper Garden Why Donate Our residents were once middle-income professionals — teachers, government workers, librarians. They are our friends and our neighbors — the kind of people who make Arlington such a special place to live. But rising costs in the Washington, DC, area and longer lifespans have undermined their resources. With an average monthly income of $850-$1,550, many independent living residents often have little or no money each month to pay for medical services, toiletries and other basic necessities. The situation is even more severe for residents in assisted living. Costs for assisted living services, such as administration of medication and help with daily activities like bathing and dressing, average $1,800-$2,000 per resident per month, above and beyond the contribution residents make toward their rent. Residents with an average monthly income of $1,476 cannot begin to cover that cost. Culpepper Garden — and You — Bridge the Gap Culpepper Garden established the Tom Floyd Aging with Dignity Fund in 1993 to help make up the difference between the cost of care and available funds. When residents cannot afford rent and other basic needs, even with government subsidies, additional financial support from companies, foundations and individuals ensures that our seniors have a safe, secure place to live and are not forced to move away from their family and friends. With your help, we can make sure that no resident will ever have to leave his or her home in Culpepper Garden because of lack of funds.
